It’s not like a fine wine, your tool doesn’t necessarily get better with age! However, if you’ve had the tool from new or for an extended period, then you would have seen its performance and workload over that period, and have a good knowledge of the tool itself and know it’s strengths and ability to work.
The performance of the tool, to carry out the work required is more important than its age. Each tool has a model number, and this can help determine the age of your tool if required. Have you cared for and maintained the tool, have you used it in accordance with the manufacturer’s directions and have you had it regularly serviced or repaired? These things can make a real difference to the life of your tool. There’s more than likely to be parts that need to be replaced over a tool’s lifetime due to wear and tear, however a good quality tool cared for and maintained should hopefully have an extended life. It’s can all start with the purchase of a good quality tool.
